Gånsager school's trip to Spain

Two or three times per year the school organizes a trip where students, teachers, DI and pedagogues are involved. These trips are really good way for students to learn about geography, cultures, languages and share the moments with others.

The weeks before to the trip the morning assemblies are dedicated to study different issues about the country where they are going to go. They are willing to know more about the specific country and that way they learn a lot.
Now I am going to speak about my own experience as DI.
One month and a half after I arrived to Denmark my school had preparation for a trip to Spain. Imagine how happy I was when I knew about that. I am from Spain, and I am very proud of my country, so to have the opportunity to show the others my country and culture made me feel really happy.
The school decided to make this trip by bus. At the beginning I thought it was a crazy idea, because it is a long way from Denmark to Spain but after we did it I can say it was a really good idea. We spent many many hours in the bus but I think that most of us had a good time there. We sang a lot of songs, played many different games, we did a quiz about all the countries we were driving through.
We were in different countries but just spending one night there. However we could enjoy one day in Paris (even if the weather was not the best) and the rest of the days in Spain (Barcelona, Olot and Girona).
In Paris we split in different groups, because that way is easier to decide where to go and you don’t have to wait for the rest of the people. Every group visited different places but after lunch all of us met in the Eiffel tower. We went to the second floor (because it was very windy) of it and I can say it was wonderful. The view is amazing.
The day after we went to Barcelona. We arrived very late and we went directly to the hostel to sleep. The morning after the sun was shining and every thing looked very colourful.
I could feel I was in my country. The air was different; everything was familiar for me, even if Barcelona is not my home city. I think everyone who is not living in his country can feel this nice sensation when they come back to their country… It is really good to feel you are at home.
In Barcelona we walked from Catalunya Square to Colon Square. We visited the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona´s Club Stadium and  Montjuich mountain and park where we could enjoy a marvellous view of the city.
I would say that the best place we visited and had more fun was Olot. It is a little city in Girona region surrounded by volcanoes, mountains and amazing nature. The weather was fantastic, and we did a lot of interesting activities and learnt a lot about volcanoes and we visited a famous yoghurt factory in Catalunya district. The students could see the process how to make yogurt and how the cows live there.
Some of us slept in host families and that gave us the opportunity to know more about Spanish families and Spain.
After we spent those unforgettable days in Olot, we went to Girona. I think at that time everyone was a little bit tired because we had already spent 9 days in this trip and many times we had to move from one accommodation to another.
More over the last day snowed a lot. The last time when the storm like that was in Girona it was 26 years ago. The mobile phones didn’t work, there were no light in many places, the airport was paralysed and all the flights were cancelled. But somehow the day after the storm we started our trip back to Denmark which took almost 40 hours.
To sum up, I have to say it was a really good experience for me. Even if sometimes it was stressful because the kids didn’t want to follow the program it was really nice. At that time I didn't have a close relationship with most of the students but after this trip I got closer to almost all of them.
Now I know them better. I know how to behave with them and what they expect from me. They trust me and I enjoyed to spend more time with them. I got closer to my team mates as well. We were 3 DIs and we were friends at that time, but after we shared all of these days together and had the same experiences we got closer to each other and now this relationship is still getting stronger.
